Molly! I had to subscribe just now because I really needed to comment to say THANK YOU for introducing me to Dance Church through your writing. It took me a few years, I don’t know why, but I went for the first time in 2 weeks ago and then most recently on Sunday morning. As a lifelong ballet girl who was flailing with attempts at barre3 classes, struggling with boring music and regimented structure, Dance Church was... wow. I was nervous at being in a group and dancing like the weirdo I am, but l found myself LOVING EVERY SECOND. I feel like I found my people.
Ha! I saw you and Ash at Oddfellows in the before times and was too embarrassed to fangirl you. We do it online from rural Wisconsin now but it’s not the same.
I so love this. I dance 3xweek on cap hill in the mornings and the pandemic shut that down as well. (we're back now, at 3 x week, but only started that up in March.) I've looked into Dance Church and want to go (except that the one near me, just four blocks away, is always at 8:15 at night. Yikes.) How does one go to sleep after dancing till 9:30 pm? We shall see. You have certainly provided inspiration!
I hear you, big-time, on the nighttime classes. I can only manage the morning ones. And now that classes require advance tickets, they often sell out. But don't let that dissuade you! GO.
This post. These words. I am having so MANY FEELINGS. I can’t even really grasp them all at the moment, but the fact that you mentioned that specific Bon Iver song - it’s one of my all time favorite songs because of how it makes me feel everything and I absolutely now believe that it’s how JV opens his own channel! Oh man oh maaaannnn - I must find a way to get back to dancing in a room full of people. Thanks for the reminder ♥️
Ps. I’d never heard that Robyn song but will now watch that video at least 1000 times
I didn't know about you and dancing, but now I'm extremely glad I do. Are we human or are we dancer? Both I now know!
Okay I have to check this out!!

I discovered Dance Church through your posts, and was only able to join because of the pandemic. I dream of being able to join a class in-person.

Dance Church in person will make you cry with relief and love.
