This is really beautiful, Molly. The paragraph that begins, “What I see in my photos is, more or less, okay, wow, this lady is home a lot” really got me, especially the last bit about being sad “in a happy way” and about needing to write to figure it out. I was welling up. Thank you for this!

I like being home too. It’s taken several decades, and an ongoing obsession with the pictures of everyday (extra)ordinariness you describe, to stop apologising for liking ‘just’ being home.

I was a silent lurker in those days of Flickr - or, the era of wearing stripes, as I call it - but I was inspired so much by your photos back then to buy my own Pentax k1000. I’ve recently attempted to pick it up more often to capture my own at-home-far-too-much life with a seven-month-old. But geez, buying film and getting it developed in NZ is expensive. Might need a second mortgage.
